MORNLEAF PAGESALL NOTES

LIGHT & SEASONS

The long light
of autumn.

A low sun gives ordinary surfaces a little more depth. A wall becomes a map of shadows; a line of trees stretches across a whole field.

On a familiar walk, it helps to look toward the edges. Light catches a leaf from behind, while the ground beneath it stays cool and dark. Small contrasts can say more about a season than a wide view.

Photographs are one way to keep these observations, but a sentence or a quick pencil mark works too. Write down where the light fell, what colour it seemed, and how quickly it changed. The point is to remember what was noticed.

Returning at the same hour a week later reveals another landscape. The path is still there; its light has moved on.
